Memorial Day Weekend

It's been raining cats & dogs here for 2 weeks and while we didn't float away, most of our city did!  I think most of Houston ended up getting a 4 day weekend because no one could make it into work Tuesday.  Luckily, the rain didn't damper our weekend too much in our part of town.

Saturday morning, we took Izzy & Maggie fishing for the first time!  We went down to a friend's dock in Seabrook & we couldn't have asked for a better day.  We were out for just a couple hours & had a ton of wind, some sun, a light sprinkle & a bucket of worms to tempt our fishy friends.

Hip Hip Hooray!  Maggie reeled in her first ever fish... & the first catch of the day!

And seriously 1 minute later, Izzy reeled her first fish in too!

We couldn't end our fishing trip without a selfie in our semi-matching fishing shirts! :-)

After our fishing excursion, Valerie, Julie & my mom came over to swim & cook for dinner.

Sunday night, Becca was Confirmed at church & it was a beautiful ceremony officiated by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo.  Afterwards, we all came back to the house to eat Bec's dinner choice of pizza & hot wings and a night of swimming.  It was a great evening full of family & fun!
(sorry no pictures as they weren't allowed during mass)

On Monday, we took full advantage of our day off & played outside all day.  Actually Bo finished the chicken coop & we swam. :-)  My dad & family came over to swim & eat some carnitas & tostones.  Nothing says Memorial day like Puerto Rican food. ;-)  I think our little ladies like their finished house. (Please let them be hens! Please let them be hens!)

Tuesday morning we woke up & Houston was underwater.  Literally.  Almost every major road had flooded from the rain the night before.  We watched the 5am news as Bo was about to head out to work & realized there was no way he would make it, so he called it in & worked from home.  Later in the day, he was cleaning our neighbor's pool baskets & found this little guy.....

We named this one Speedy because he was so fast swimming around in the cooler of water we were keeping him in.  Once Izzy got home from school, we released him in the neighborhood lake.  We put Speedy on the edge of the lake & he zoomed in.  Probably looking for Snappy, our last little turtle friend we sent back home to the lake. :-)

I hope everyone had a great, long weekend & that you're all safe from the floods!
