Red, White & Bleu Burgers ~ 4th of July Grilling

Have you met my grill yet?  I say "my grill" because my dad made this grill/BBQ pit in 1978...the year I was born...probably knowing he would one day give it to me. ;-)  He used to be a welder & he welded this with his own two hands.  My dad even signed his name & year on the top of it so there was so mistaking whose it was & when it was made!  This grill is seriously indestructible!

Wanting to get this baby fired up, we headed to The Home Depot to pick up some charcoal...specifically Kingsford Original Twinpacks.  The Home Depot's 4th of July sale has begun & their special sale price of $9.88 is over half off!  We literally grill every day of the week so it's best to stock up on charcoal when the price is right!

In true 4th of July spirit, we decided to make Red, White & Bleu cheeseburgers with a side of potato salad & corn on the cob.  Bo got the fire ready outside while I got the burgers & sides ready inside.

Inside, I got busy making the burgers.  This is my go-to burger recipe & it's a crowd pleaser every time!

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 egg
1 package dry onion soup mix
bread crumbs
worcestershire sauce

Mix it all together & form 6 patties (or 12 if you're making sliders)
Add a small indention on top of each patty
Grill & enjoy!
(If you're making sliders, serve on Hawaiian rolls to make it extra delicious!)
Little hands helped me make a small indentions on the patties.  That's supposed to help the patty keep its shape better...not puff up...cook more evenly.  At least that's what Bobby Flay told me! :-)

Have you ever hashtagged bacon?  Yeah...this is really happening! #youcanthankmelater
I took 6 strips of bacon, quartered them by slicing them down the middle horizontally & diagonally, laid them out on a baking rack & baked at 375deg until they were to my liking. #bacon

Earlier in the day, I made potato salad so it had time to cool down before we ate it.  My recipe is so simple & couldn't be any easier!  Since we were only feeding our family of 5, I made a smaller batch than I would have otherwise for a larger crowd.

3 medium potatoes; peeled & boiled
3 boiled eggs; chopped
1 small jar pimento
Hellmann's mayo

Peel & boil the potatoes until fork tender; drain.
Add eggs to water to cover by 1"; Once water is boiling, boil eggs for another 10 mins, drain & rinse under cold water
Peel eggs & chop as small or large as you like
Add all to a bowl
Add pimentos
Add a couple spoonfuls of mayo & a squirt of mustard
Add salt/pepper
Add & mix & taste to get it to the flavor you like
Cool & enjoy!!!

Once the fire was ready, Bo took the burgers outside to grill & before we knew it, it was time for the bleu.  Bleu cheese that is.  At least on our burgers....littles still got the American cheese.

O.M.Goodness!  This burger was SO YUMMY!!!  I finished adding all the toppings to my burger & sat down to enjoy it with the fam!

  1. What a great tribute to a man and bbq pit that has fed so many people throughout the years! Those burgers look great!

  2. Your burger looks fantastic! I absolutely LOVE the fact that you use the grill that your dad MADE so many years ago!! How awesome!! #client

    1. Thanks Sarah! It's truly a blessing that we'll be able to continue to pass this down to our kids. Now to decide which one will get it.... :-)
